Climate Change Debate

A proposed installation at the U.S. Capitol that encourages dialogue between U.S. Senators and the American people on climate change.

Informational Sculpture

Video recordings of 100 U.S. Senators are displayed on the exterior.
Tight crops of senators’ mouths are intended to visually emphasize their statements regarding the climate crisis.

Wood is used for the inner panels to symbolize the environment. Displayed on the inner panels are senators’ environmental lifetime score in bright LED lights. For greater impact, wood is burned according to the Senator’s voting percentage. Those with low voting percentages have a dark wood finish while high percentages have untouched, natural wood.

The structure has 6 concave polygon pillars based on the six regions (Northeast, Northwest, Midwest, Great Plains, Southeast, Southwest) stated in the 2014 National Climate Assessment.
